Odisha’s BJD MLA injured as party workers clash during meeting

A legislator of Odisha’s ruling party today sustained head injuries after party members clashed during a meeting here.

With the panchayat polls nearing in the state, the political vehemence seems to be soaring.

Tekloi MLA Bedabyasa Nayak was attacked by some party workers during a meeting at Gundhichaghagi under Ghatagaon panchayat in the district. Following the assault, Nayak sustained head injuries and was rushed to Harichandanpur Community Health Centre (CHC).

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader was provided treatment at the health facility and his condition is stated to be stable.

According to sources, the party leaders and workers had organized a meeting to chalk out the strategy for the upcoming rural polls.

During the meeting, some workers had a heated exchange of words which later turned ugly. The difference of opinion led to a clash in which the MLA was injured.

BJD district president Asish Chakraborty and other senior party leaders were present in the meeting.
