Odisha’s Dhamra port confers ‘Prakruti Sathi’ award on 10 schools, colleges

On the occasion of the observation of World Environment Day on Thursday, Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL), the premier private port in Odisha, conferred the “Prakruti Sathi” (Friend of the Environment) Award on 10 educational institutions of Bhadrak district who have maintained greenery in their campuses and are working to spread awareness on the issue.

CEO of DPCL Santosh Kumar Mohapatra presented the “Prakruti Sathi – 2014” Awards to the educational institutions at a special function organized by the company within the port premises. The principals and headmasters of the respective colleges and schools received the awards on behalf their institutions.

The awardees for the year were, Dosinga High School, Dosinga, Sukhchand Manna Nodal UPME School, Kaithakhola, Fulamani M.E. School, Sashikadeipur, SS Nigamanand Uchha Vidyapitha, Sashikadeipur, Bansada High School, Aparti Charan High School, Ghanteswar, Santi Sailendra High School, Pirahat, Samtaraypur High School, Gadi, Ghanteswar College, Ghanteswar and Biranchi Narayan College, Paliabindha.

A drawing competition for school children was also organized by Dhamra Port at the periphery of Dosinga village cyclone shelter wherein many students from local schools participated. The drawings on the theme of environment protection by six students were selected for prize. These students were from JN High School, Kaithakhola, Dosinga High School, Dosinga UGUP (ME) School and DPCL DAV Public School.

The drawing competition and World Environment Day event was coordinated by CSR Head of DPCL Himansu S. Sahoo. Several persons from the district who have been working in the field of environment protection attended the function and appreciated the efforts of Dhamra Port in honouring people and organizations doing commendable job in the field of environment.

The “Prakruti Sathi” Award was instituted by the company in 2013 to felicitate and encourage persons or organizations doing commendable job in the field of environment protection and enrichment. On World Environment Day last year, 10 individuals who had contributed significantly to the enrichment of environment in Bhadrak district were honoured.
