The Vatican has appointed Father Telesphore Bilung, a Catholic priest from Odisha’s Sundargarh district, as the new Auxiliary Bishop of Ranchi Archdiocese.
The new appointment, which was made public at the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See to India- the diplomatic mission of the Vatican state to India, was announced in Vatican today.
Father Telesphore Bilung would assist Cardinal T. P. Toppo, Archbishop of Ranchi, said a release from the Archbishop’s office here.
It’s for the first time that a Catholic priest from Odisha has been appointed bishop in Jharkhand.
Father Telephore Bilung, who is a member of an international Catholic religious order called Society of Divine Word (SVD), was currently the provincial superior or head of SVD Eastern Indian province, the release added.
