Odisha’s Gurupriya bridge results another woman Maoist’s surrender

Malkangiri: The recently inaugurated Gurupriya Bridge has already started playing a major role in combating Maoist activities in Odisha’s Malkangiri as a woman Maoist surrendered before the district police today.

The surrendered Maoist has been identified as Nayana Khilo (19) of Chitrakonda area in the district. Khilo quit the CPI (Maoist) party due to the Gurupriya Bridge which facilitated establishment of Jantapayi camp of security forces and their frequent movement in the areas, police sources said.

She saw the developmental activities and realised the futility of the violent approach of Maoists. Further, she did not like the activities of CPI (Maoist) cadres like Dhanjaya Gope who is a womanizer and involved in many brutal killings, the sources added.

Khilo was carrying a cash reward of Rs one lakh on her head. She was allegedly involved in burning vehicles engaged in road construction near Mudulipada in 2017 and exchange of fire with security forces on several occasions.

She shall get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of the Government of Odisha and financial help for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in trade/vocation of their choice.

Worth mentioning, another woman Maoist, identified as Mude Madhi alias Ratna, had surrendered before police in Malkangiri on July 29 due to the aforementioned reasons.
