Odisha’s Hirakud dam to release season’s first floods on Sunday

Hirakud: Hirakud dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district will be releasing this year’s first flood waters on July 23 anytime after 10 AM.

Collectors of the districts downstream alongside the banks of river Mahanadi in the state have been put on alert.

Presently, the dam is holding 604.25 ft water. Flood inflow into the reservoir from the upper catchment basin has been currently estimated at 92,000 cusecs per second.

Under the circumstances, the public has been warned against entering into the reservoir by the dam authorities.
