Odisha’s Jajati Karan wins ENBA award for Phailin coverage

Senior TV journalist and chief of the Odisha bureau of English news channel CNN-IBN, Jajati Karan has won the prestigious Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (ENBA) 2014 Award for best spot news coverage for his coverage of Cyclone Phailin in October 2013.

Video journalist Nilakantha Acharya from the Bhubaneswar Bureau of the same channel has also been awarded by the ENBA-2014.

A 12-member jury, led by former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SY Qureshi selected the winners.

The awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony held at Hotel Hyatt Regency in New Delhi on behalf of indiantelevision.com.

Reputed journalists and video journalists of different TV channels from the country had applied for this coveted award.

Karan, who started his career with the Orissa Television (OTV) in the 90s, worked for Sahara TV before joining as the head of the Odisha bureau of CNN IBN. He has 18 years of experience in television journalism. He is also the first person from the state to have won the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award. Video journalist Acharya also has 15 years of experience in TV journalism.

ENBA Awards are given for best talent in news television in India. Exchange4media formulated these awards in 2008 with the objective of recognizing the best in television news, to reward broadcasters and industry leaders who are responsible for shaping the future of Television Broadcasting in India.
