Odisha’s Jayanti Behera clinches silver in Asian Youth Para Games

Bhubaneswar: Para athlete from Odisha, Jayanti Behera brought laurels to the state by bagging silver medal in 100-meter race at the Asian Youth Para Games-2017 in Dubai.

Jayanti clinched the second spot clocking a timing of 13.48 seconds. While the top spot was secured by Misu Honoka of Japan with 13.45 seconds, the third position was grabbed by Nakagawa Moe of Japan with 14.24 seconds.

Notably, Jayanti had earlier clinched gold for India in 400-metre event at the World Junior Para Athletic Championships held in Nottwil, Switzerland in August this year.

Similarly, she had won gold medal at the China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix Championship in May this year.

Worth mentioning, Jayanti’s left hand and waist were burnt in a fire mishap when she was just one-year-old. Hailing from a poor family, she braved all odds to rise to such heights.
