Odisha’s Nandankanan zoo gets four lions from Bengaluru

The Nandankanan Zoological Park in Tthe Odisha capital got four lions and lionesses from a Bangalore zoo under an animal exchange programme on Sunday evening.

The lions and lionesses belonging, aged between four to five years,, are of the hybrid type. The Nandankanan zoo authorities had requested the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) to consider their appeal to arrange lions and lionesses in order to increase their number through breeding in the zoo.

The CZA had arranged the lions and lionesses from the Bannerghatta Biological Park, 22 km south of Bengaluru. A five-member team of the Nandankanan zoo, led by veterinary doctor Anil Dash and Ranger Anjan Kumar Mohanty, had gone to Bannerghatta on November 2 to bring the animals.

According to the conditions of the exchange, the Nandankanan zoo had already given 19 animals to the Bengaluru zoo for the four lions and lionesses.
