Odisha’s NIT-R Chairperson Vasantha Ramaswamy suspended

Rourkela, Aug 6:
Acting on the recommendation of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the President of India has sacked Vasantha Ramaswamy, the honorary Chairperson of Board of Governors (BoG) of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela.
According to reports, a letter circulated by MHRD Additional Secretary R Subramanium yesterday informed concerned authorities about the termination of Ramaswamy. The letter was also sent to NIT Rourkela Registrar for circulation among other members of the BoG.
“I have received the letter of termination. Until a Chairman is appointed, the Director will act as a Chairman as per the protocol,” said the NIT Rourkela Registrar SK Upadhyay confirming the development.
According to a source in MHRD, the Ministry made the recommendation after Vasantha defied its orders that sought her resignation.
The BoG Chairperson had reportedly been at odds with NIT Director SK Sarangi over several issues including administrative ones.
It may be mentioned here that Sarangi has already resigned based on the suggestions of MHRD.
