Paradip, Feb 19:
Indian Railway Ministry’s Conker Multi Made Logistic Ltd will soon build a dedicated container terminal in Odisha’s Paradip port.
The information was provided by Conker Director V Kalyan Rama yesterday after he held a meeting with Paradip Port Trust (PPT) Chairman Rinkesh Roy in Paradip.
As per the terms agreed, Paradip Port Trust would facilitate about 400-500 acres of land required for this project. While Conker would invest Rs 15 crore in the first phase for the project, the rest of the money would be spent by PPT.
While the project is likely to start operation within next four to five months, it would take about 10 years to be fully functional.
The new terminal would add up to five million tonnes of cargo handling capacity per annum for the port.
It will be equipped with latest equipments such as mobile harbour cranes, rubber tyred gantry cranes, reach stackers and forklifts/ pay loaders to handle non-hazardous and dust free cargo including iron and steel products, aluminium ingots, pig iron, finished fertilisers, food grains etc.
Notably, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) on March 7, 2015 signed a concession agreement with Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT) for construction of a Rs 430 crore berth for container traffic and clean cargo handling. A special purpose vehicle was set up to execute the project in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
