Odisha’s roadside eatery vendor makes it to World Bodybuilding C’ship

This young Odisha bodybuilder has set an example for others to follow. Despite financial adversity, he has defied all odds to make it big at highest levels by virtue of hard work and determination.

A roadside eatery vendor Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo has qualified to represent India at Asian Body Building & Physique Sports Championship in Bhutan and World Body Building & Physique Sports Championship to be held in Thailand. He will be part of the national team in the 80 kg category.

Sahoo got this opportunity based on his performance during the selection trial at Kamraj Memorial Auditorium Hall in Chennai on July 19.

“I could qualify to represent at the Asian and World Bodybuilding championship due to the support of the Odisha Bodybuilding Association. If I get sponsorship or public support then I would go further,” Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo expressed.

“It is a matter of immense happiness that an Odisha boy has qualified to represent India. He was eking out his living by selling food at a roadside eatery in Bhubaneswar. He would excel in his field if he gets financial support of sponsors,” Sumitra Tripathy, member of Odisha Bodybuilding Association said.

While 50th Asian Body Building & Physique Sports Championship 2016 will be held at Bhutan from Sep 2 to Sep 8, 8th World Body Building & Physique Sports Championship 2016 will be held at Thailand in November this year.

Apart from Sahoo, Pankaj Pratihari, Krishna Rao, Balal Khan and Rajesh Achari from Odisha have been inducted in the team to represent India at the international events.

Notably, Tamil Nadu Body Builders Welfare Society under the patronage of Indian Body Builders Federation had organized the selection trial.
