Odisha’s SOA University scientist chosen for Young Scientist Award

Dr Alok Prasad Das, Assistant Professor at the Centre of Biotechnology under the SOA University of Odisha, has been chosen for the prestigious Odisha Young Scientist Award by the Odisha Bigyan Academy in the category of Life Sciences for 2013.

The award, comprising a citation and cash prize of Rs. 10,000, will be conferred on Dr. Das at a special state level ceremony to be held in the near future.

Das received his M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from the Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, and M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from NIT, Rourkela. He pursued his doctoral thesis on ‘bioleaching of manganese from low grade manganese ore using indigenous microflora’ under the guidance of Lal Behari Sukla, ex-Emeritus Scientist and Dr. Nilotpal Pradhan, Scientist-D at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar.

He is now engaged in core research in areas of Bio-engineering and Bio-mineral processing at the Centre of Biotechnology and is presently working on four ongoing projects funded by the Department of Biotechnology and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
