Odisha’s Sudarsan Pattnaik attempting another world record on Christmas

Puri: Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik is attempting another world record on the occasion of Christmas by creating a huge sand Santa Claus at sea beach here.

The 25-ft-high and 50-ft-width world’s biggest sand face of Santa Claus will be complete by Sunday evening.

Taking to micro blogging site Twitter Pattnaik wrote, “I am attempting another #WorldRecord by creating World’s biggest sand face of Santa Claus of 25ft height and 50ft width, #SandSanta at Puri beach. We will complete the sculpture by tomorrow evening. #Odisha #MerryChristmas.”

Pattnaik, who is known for creating sand art on several occasions, had recently created the record by creating world’s longest sand red ribbon to commemorate World AIDS Day.

Earlier, the sand artist had created a 45-feet-high Santa Claus at Puri sea beach during Christmas in 2015. Along with 20 students, he created the sand art in 22 hours with the message of ‘World Peace’, to find a place in Limca Book of Records.

In December 2013, Pattnaik created a 160-ft-long Santa Claus using green-coloured sand to spread awareness on the importance of environment protection. He constructed the sand sculpture in 16 hours with help of 15 students for Limca Book of Records and broke his own record of moulding a 100-ft-long Santa Claus in 2006.

Pattnaik has broken his own records by creating the maximum number of sand Santa Clauses three times. In 2009, he first made 100 Santas and then in 2012, 500 sand installations at Puri beach during Christmas. He smashed his own records in 2016 making one thousand Santas with support from 35 students over a period of four days to raise awareness about global happiness.
