Odisha’s Sukanya Parida picked up for ODI series against Indies

Odisha-born Sukanya Parida has sealed her place in the Indian women’s cricket team for the upcoming home series against West Indies.

Sukanya hails from Naamouza village of Kendrapara district and is currently playing for neighbouring West Bengal. The 23-year-old right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-hand batsman was part of the Challenger Trophy-winning India Red. She had put up an impressive performance during the tournament drawing the attention of the selectors.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today announced the India squad for the home series against the West Indies from November 10 and Asia Cup to be played in Thailand from November 27.

While a couple of debutantes have been included in the team, Harmanpreet Kaur was named the new captain of the Indian women’s T20 team replacing veteran Mithali Raj. Mithali would, however, remain the ODI captain.

The series against visiting West Indies comprises of three ODIs and three T20Is to be played at Vijaywada.

ODI squad for West Indies series: Mithali Raj (captain), Harmanpreet Kaur, Smrit Mandhana, Thirush Kamini, Mona Meshram, Veda Krishnamurthy, Devika Vaidya, Sushma Verma, Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey, Sukanya Parida, Ejta Bisht, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Deepti Sharma.
