Odisha’s Sun Temple among 12 iconic places included in Centre’s clean-up campaign

New Delhi: The Sun Temple in Konark has been featured among the list of 12 iconic sites that would be covered under the Centre’s special clean-up campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The Centre released the list of the 12 iconic sites today to be covered in the Phase IV of the Swachh Iconic Places (SIP).

The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti is coordinating to carry out the Swachh Iconic Places programme at the iconic places.

Under the SIP, the activities which will be carried out are solid and liquid waste management, beautification and landscaping of premises and approach areas, construction of sanitation and safe drinking water facilities, rooftop solar panels, battery operated sweeping machines, rejuvenation of water bodies, ban on plastic use, installation of Sewage Treatment Plants, multi-level parking, illuminated boards, awareness campaigns and IEC interventions.

The other iconic places which have been included in the list were Ajanta Caves, Maharashtra; Sachi Stupa, Madhya Pradesh; Kumbhalgarh Fort, Rajasthan; Jaisalmer Fort, Rajasthan; Ramdevra, Rajasthan; Dal Lake, J&K; Golconda Fort, Telangana; Rock Garden, Chandigarh; Banke Bihari Temple, Uttar Pradesh; Agra Fort, Uttar Pradesh; Kalighat Temple, West Bengal.
