Odisha’s veteran poet, publisher Dandapani Mishra no more

Veteran freedom fighter, poet, journalist and publisher of Dharitri and Odisha Post Dandapani Mishra is no more. He breathed his last after prolonged illness at 11 pm on Wednesday at the Capital Hospital here.

Mishra’s wife Savitri Devi had passed away in 2010, leaving him a broken man.

Mishra’s youngest son Kaminikant Mishra and other family members were present by his side when he passed away. Editor of Dharitri and Odisha Post Tathagat Satpathy, his wife and chief executive Adyasha Satpathy as well as members of the Dharitri family have expressed their deep sense of loss and grief over his sad demise.

Mishra’s body would be consigned to flames at Swarga Dwar in Puri later today, family sources said.

Dandapani Mishra was born on 30 March 1917 at Sarankul in Nayagarh disrict. He took an active part in the freedom struggle and established himself as a poet of eminence. He joined a government job in 1948 and took retirement in 1975. He then joined the Odia daily ‘Dharitri’as its publisher, a post he held till he breathed his last.

He had been honoured with several awards for journalism and poetry. His famous literary creations include ‘Matkadala’, ‘Agni Sanchayan’and ‘Chaita Bijuli’.
