Bhubaneswar, Dec 13:

Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) as a party  is virtually out of the BMC polls because it has been debarred from using its newly acquired election symbol, 'kite'.

The State Election Commissioner (SEC) Ajit Kumar Tripathy on Friday made it clear that the OJM cannot use its election symbol in the ensuing Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled to be held on January 8.

“Since the SEC was not intimated about the allotment of the symbol prior to the announcement of poll schedule for the BMC, the OJM cannot use it in the BMC polls this time,” Tripathy told reporters here.

This means OJM will not be able to field 'party candidates'in the BMC polls because they will not have a common symbol.

It may be mentioned that the OJM president and Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra on Thursday had announced that his party would field its candidates in all 67 wards of the BMC.

He also spoke about the constitution of a six-member committee to finalise the candidates’ names and also to prepare poll strategy.
