OMC, others to be roped in for Keonjhar medical college

The Keonjhar district planning committee today decided to hold discussions with Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and other corporate houses in the district within the next three months for assistance in setting up a medical college at Keonjhar.

The meeting decided to take steps in the current fiscal 2015-16 to upgrade Dharanidhar Autonomous College in Keonjhar district to a unitary university. A decision to start an ‘off campus’ of the North Odisha University at Keonjhar in the next academic year was also taken at the meeting, sources said.

A study and further discussions will be held for opening of an agriculture university at Judia farm and Salapada farm in Keonjhar district.

It was proposed at the meeting to very soon ink a MoU with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited to establish a large steel plant at Barbil, Patna or Palashpanga in the district.

The meeting decided to request Railway authorities to start survey work for rail connectivity to Anandpur and Champua subdivisions with the district headquarters for meeting the communication needs of the public.

The committee meeting was chaired by Finance Minister and chairman of the committee Pradip Amat and was attended by Rural Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra and chief secretary G C Pati.
