OMC signs MoU with Delhi company to coach IIT aspirants from backward classes

To help students belonging to socially and economically backward classes in the state crack all India entrance tests like IIT, the state-run Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delhi-based Centre for Social Responsibility & Leadership (CSRL) to provide them necessary coaching for this.

The MoU was signed between OMC managing director SN Girish and CSRL director SK Sahi at the State Secretariat here in presence of chief secretary GC Pati on Friday.

As per the MoU, CSRL would provide an 11-month IIT coaching to 30 backward community/classes students from Odisha and the OMC would invest Rs 2.5 lakh for each student from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund towards this.

The total investment for the coaching, called “OMC Odia Super-30,” would be Rs 75 lakh per year.

Speaking on the occasion, the CSRL director said the organisation would pick meritorious students of backward communities from all the 30 districts of Odisha.

The CSRL officials, during their visit to several colleges in various districts, will conduct a primary selection of students of which 30 students would be selected finally for coaching after a state-level written and viva voce test to be held in March next year, he said.

Highlighting the performance of the students trained by CSRL, he said 88% out of the total number of its trainees have qualified for admission in the IITs, NITs, ISR, ISM, BITS-Pilani and other overseas institutions.
