Omicron: Sec 144 imposed in Mumbai; Ban on vehicle movement in Chennai on Jan 1

Mumbai/Chennai/Bhubaneswar: Amid rise in Omicron cases in the country, fresh restrictions have been imposed in Mumbai and Chennai to curb the infections.

Prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in Mumbai starting from December 30 till January 7, 2022.

New Year celebrations, parties at any closed or open space including restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts and clubs have been prohibited in the city during the period.

On the other hand, vehicular movement has been prohibited in Chennai from 12 am till 5 am on January 1, 2022.

People have been advised to reach home before midnight on December 31. However, those travelling for essential items and emergency services will be exempted from the restriction.

This apart, New Year celebrations at public places, including beaches, have been prohibited in Chennai.

Parking of vehicles near the beach has also been prohibited. The movement of vehicles will also be prohibited on the beach roads from 9 pm on December 31.

India today reported 13,154 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Omicron cases tally rose to 961 with 263 cases in Delhi and 252 in Maharashtra.
