One dead after sand-laden truck rams into labourers’ camp in Odisha’s Bhadrak

Sources said labourers were engaged in the ongoing upgradation work of the highway and many make-shift camps were set up for them along the stretch including one near Sarada Vidya Mandir.

Bhadrak: In a shocking incident, a labourer died while another suffered critical injuries after a sand-laden Hyva truck rammed into a temporary camp set up for them along NH 16 in Odisha’s Bhadrak district here today. The incident was reported from near Sarada Vidya Mandir on the highway in Bhandaripokhari block.

Sources said labourers were engaged in the ongoing upgradation work of the highway and many make-shift camps were set up for them along the stretch including one near Sarada Vidya Mandir. On Tuesday morning, a labourer was sleeping in that camp when the heavy sand-laden truck coming from Akhuapada rammed into it killing him on the spot. Another labourer present at the spot was grievously hurt.

On getting information, fire services personnel reached the spot and rescued the injured victim. They rushed him to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, police too arrived at the spot and started investigation. The body has been seized for postmortem.
