Ganesh idol immersion : One dead, two feared drowned in state

Bhubaneswar, Sept-10 :

At least two students were feared drowned in two separate incidents in Baranga and Puri on Tuesday while one student died during idol immersion in Jagatsinghpur.

A second year Biotechnology student of MITS School of Biotechnology (MSB) in the city on Tuesday was feared drowned in the Puri main canal near Baranga police station here during Ganesh idol immersion.

According to reports, the victim Sourav Jana of MSB and a native of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand along with six of his college mates had come to the canal bridge near the Baranga police station in an auto rickshaw for idol immersion. During the immersion, Jana suddenly slipped into the water prompting the local police and fire brigade officials to rush to the spot. However, despite an intense search operation, they have not been able to trace Jana.

In another incident, a student of SCS College Puri was feared drowned in the Puri beach during the Ganesh idol immersion. The identity of the student is yet to be ascertained.

In yet another tragic incident, a 15-year-old standard 10 student drowned to death in Hansua river in Jagstsinghpur district. According to reports, the deceased Papun Sahoo, a student of Hanumani Memorial Trishakti Vidyapeeth in Jagatsinghpur along with his friends had gone to the river for the Ganesh idol immersion. But unfortunately, he slipped and drowned.
