One killed, four injured as crackers explode inside house in Odisha

Balangir, Aug 1:

In a tragic incident, a woman was killed and four persons sustained burn injuries after fire crackers exploded inside a house at Bhaler village under Puintala block of Odisha’s Balangir district, today.

According to reports, the incident took place when three female workers were manufacturing crackers inside the house. The trio was critically injured in the explosion and rushed to Balangir district headquarters hospital for treatment. However, one of them, identified as Santoshini Nayak (25), succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The rest two were shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital in Burla as their condition deteriorated.

On being informed about the explosion, fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames after which the owner of the house Gitanjali Das and her husband Om Prakash Das, who also sustained burn injuries, were rescued.

After their treatment, the Sadar police detained the couple for interrogation regarding the manufacturing of fire crackers. The duo was later arrested.

The manufacturing of crackers was done illegally inside the house, a police official said.
