One killed in group clash over land dispute

Pipili, May 5:

One person was killed and 5 others including two women were injured in a violent group clash at Jamalpur village under Pipili police limits in Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday over an old land dispute, reports said.

According to reports, there was a longstanding bitter feud between the families of Sridhar Sahu and Satrughna Sahu of the same village over the ownership of a plot of land for the last 20 years. On Sunday, members of Sridhar’s family had gone to the disputed plot to claim ownership over it and attacked members of Satrughna when they opposed the move. Satrughna who tried to intervene and stop the fight got killed when he was ht on his head by a lathi.

Three members of Satrughna’s family, who were seriously injured in the attack, have been hospitalised, sources said.

The police have registered a case and detained five members of Sridhar Sahu’s family, including a woman, in connection with the clash, sources added.
