One lakh ex-servicemen to get OROP benefits in two months: Parrikar

Budgam (J&K), Nov 3:

Two days after an ex-serviceman’s suicide on the OROP issue, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said most defence veterans had been given benefits under the scheme while around one lakh who were still left will be given these in two months.

These one lakh ex-servicemen were yet to get the full benefits under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) system due to technical issues, the Minister told media persons here.

Parrikar is on a visit to Kashmir to review the preparedness of troops in the wake of repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Parrikar said the paperwork regarding the ex-servicemen, who did not benefit under the OROP, will be processed in two months.

“One lakh personnel are yet to get the full benefits of the OROP. There are some technical issues in the implementation; we will soon sort out the paperwork. In the next two months, we will finalise it,” he added.

The Defence Minister’s remarks came after a political controversy erupted in Delhi on Wednesday over the suicide on Tuesday of Ram Kishan Grewal, a retired Subedar of the Indian Army. (IANS)
