One more land grab case against ex-Odisha MLA Ramesh Jena

Odisha police today registered one more land grab case against former Sanakhemundi Congress MLA Ramesh Jena and two of his associates.

Berhampur police registered the fresh case (No 54/16) at the Sadar Police Station against the trio in connection with an alleged land grab in Nimakhandi area on the outskirts of the city.

“Police have registered a new case of land grab against Ramesh Jena, former Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) corporator R Murali Mohan and Buna Sahu for forcibly taking possession of a land in Nimakhandi area in the city,” Berhampur SP Ashish Singh informed.

With this, the number of cases against the former Congress legislator Ramesh Jena has risen to 14.

Earlier in the day, police arrested five more associates of Jena.

This apart, a country liquor unit at Bhabinipur in the name of Arakhita Jena, father of Ramesh Jena, has been sealed as the unit was operating without a valid license, Singh added.

Jena was sent to Berhampur Circle Jail after his remand ended today.

Meanwhile, police today appealed to the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court to take the former Congress MLA on a seven-day remand for interrogation into land grab and illegal arms cases registered against him.

Berhampur police sought remand of Jena after his two-day remand ended today. Aska police had taken him on remand to interrogate him in connection with tender fixing cases.
