One more farmer kills self in Baripada, Odisha

Baripada, Nov 12:

Another farmer, due to unpaid debts and crop failure has committed suicide in Odisha’s Baripada district.

The farmer Shiv Shankar Singh, a native of Ratanpur village under Badasahi block committed suicide by hanging self on Wednesday night.

Singh killed hinself as he was unable to repay the loans, his family has alleged.

Meanwhile, two more farmers had committed suicide yesterday, namely, Jugal Baghsingh, a farmer of Godagaon village under Begunia police station in Khurda district and Sridhar of Palakana village in Kendrapara district.

Jugal Baghsingh committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree. His family members said that he had cultivated three acres of his own land and about eight acres of land belonging to others as a sharecropper. He had taken loans from private individuals as well as primary cooperative society. As he was pestered by these individuals to repay the loans during Diwali, he was under mental stress and took the extreme step, his family members claimed.

Similarly, Sridhar of Palakana village in Kendrapara district, was distressed over crop failure and burdened under loans from private individuals, he jumped into a pond and drowned to death, his family members claimed.
