One more journalist brutally attacked in Odisha, hospitalized

Kendrapara: It seems the lives of journalists are not safe in Odisha as two scribes were attacked within a week in the State. Days after a young journalist was thrashed by a group of students inside a cinema hall in Odisha capital for opposing indecent remarks on women, another journalist was today assaulted in Kendrapara.

According to reports, Kumaresh Nayak, a journalist of a vernacular daily was brutally attacked by a group of men with a sharp weapon over coverage of kidnapping news. The scribe sustained grievous injuries in the attack has been admitted to Pattamundai Community Health Centre.

On January 26, Kapilendra Pradhan, working for an Odia daily, was severely thrashed by a group of students inside Maharaja Picture Palace in Bhubaneswar for opposing indecent remarks on women inside the hall. Two days after, three accused were arrested by Saheed Nagar police.

In another such incident, Pratap Mahapatra, a native of Jagatsinghpur district, working as a circulation manager for an Odia vernacular daily in Balangir district, was robbed of and then killed by some unidentified persons on January 28 while he was on the way to his office.
