Online medical certificate mandatory for driving licence in Odisha

Cuttack: The Transport department in Odisha will soon launch Aadhaar integrated faceless services to help citizens avail learner’s licence (LL) and driving licence (DL) in a hassle-free manner.

Online issuance of medical certificate is mandatory for this arrangement, said the State Transport Authority (STA).

Similarly, online production of medical certificate will be made mandatory in RTO centric application in due course. Medical certificate is mandatory for any person above 40 years of age who applies for a driving licence or renewal of the same as per the Motor Vehicle Act, added the STA.

The medical certificate of a person applying for issuance of driving licence or its renewal can be presented online in the form 1 (A) rather than doing it manually. It was decided to issue medical certificate in form 1 (A) electronically under the 5T initiative of the state government of Odisha. Through this, applicants can get DLs without difficulty and the system will help reduce footfall at RTO offices, said the STA.

Necessary facilities have been provided in Sarathi portal for online issuance of medical certificates. Doctors registered in the portal can issue medical certificates directly. “Any doctor with MBBS degree or above is eligible to register on the portal. Registration of doctors is completely free of cost,” said Joint Transport Commissioner (Technical) Dipti Ranjan Patra.

Now, no one can upload a fake medical certificate and get a driving licence. The doctors volunteering to issue medical certificates through the portal will be provided with ID and password. They will have to upload the applicant’s certificate electronically on the Sarathi portal, Patra added.
