Online registration for ET&T job fair in Odisha to begin soon

Bhubaneswar, Aug 27:

While hundreds of technical and management course graduates are eagerly awaiting the four-day special recruitment drive starting from September 17 at the Kalinga Stadium here, the Employment and Technical Education and Training (ET&T) department of Odisha government is yet to decide whether students not affiliated with the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) would be eligible to take part in it or not.

Although the department was suposed to start the registration process for the job fair from August 18, it is yet to develop the required software for online registration of eligible candidates, fuelling anger among the aspirants.

“I had discussed with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which is developing a web portal for registration of participants in the four-day recruitment drive. A problem has arisen in the software regarding submission of registration fee online. The NIC has assured us that it will make it error free within two days,” said BPUT vice-chancellor Prof J K Satpathy, who heads the committee to oversee the job fair.

When asked whether the private institutes not affiliated with BPUT would be eligible to participate in the job fair, he said there no decision has been taken on this yet.

“So far, we have been informed that those who have passed out of BPUT can participate in the recruitment drive. We will discuss with the minister about participation of private institutes that do not come under BPUT. If the government agrees, we do not have any problem,” said Prof Satpathy.

However, the process would take some time as the ET&T minister Sanjay Dasburma is undergoing treatment in Mumbai.

The BPUT VC informed that advertisements will be issued in newspapers about the registration dates and its process soon so that students can register their names.

“We have decided that the registration process will continue till September first week to ensure that the maximum number of interested candidates participate in the recruitment drive. The participants need not worry about it,” he said.

A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the BPUT VC, which has representatives from Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) and the Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) as members, to finalise the modalities for the fair.

Sources in the JEE said the first two days of the drive will be for B Tech, M Tech and MCA pass outs. MBA degree holders will take part on the third day on September 19 while the last day will be reserved for placement of pharmacy graduates.

Students aspiring to take part in the proposed recruitment drive will have to pay Rs 100 each for registration. They will pay the money online, sources added.

About 300 companies are expected to participate in the job fair and recruit the eligible candidates for their companies. A total of 40 stalls will be put up at Kalinga Stadium here to facilitate students’ interface with prospective employers during the proposed recruitment drive.
