OPGC kick starts expansion work at Ib Thermal

Bhubaneswar, 28 July :

The expansion project of OPGC’s 2×660 MW thermal power plant (Units 3 & 4) has been put on the wheels with issue of work order in favour of BHEL and BGR Energy Systems Ltd, a company press release said.

“As contracted, in the initial six months, the Equipment design basis report, engineering drawings, Turbine building and boiler loading details for foundations, mill & bunker building fabrication drawings for supply and erection of the main plant as per the scope of the tender will be taken up by BHEL and establishment of Labour colony, site levelling and grading, cement batching plant, turbine building and boiler foundations and equipment design basis report, engineering drawings for all the ancillary and peripheral plants will be completed by BGRE. This will be followed by major construction work targeting the commissioning of the units in the 12th plan period”, the OPGC statement said.

OPGC had earlier signed contracts with BHEL and BGRE on 27th of April and 11th of July 2013 respectively for the award of work for the main plant (BTG) worth Rs 4051crores and Balance of plant (BOP) worth Rs 1573 crores.

OPGC is a 51:49 joint venture between Govt. of Odisha and AES Corp USA . It runs a 2×210 MW coal based thermal power plant at Banharpali in Jharsuguda district which ranks first among the state-run utilities in the country for its high PLF of over 86%.
