Oram lays stone for MCL hospital in Sundargarh

Union minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram laid the foundation stone of a 50-bedded hospital by the Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) at Basundhara in Sundargarh district of Odisha today.

The state-of-the art hospital, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 53 crore, would fulfill the need of the entire district which is right now dependent on Rourkela or Sambalpur for specialised treatment.

Work on the proposed hospital has been entrusted to CPWD and would be completed within 18 months, sources said.

Initially, the hospital would be manned by 18 doctors and 24 para-medical staff with the provision to increase its bed strength to 100 subsequently.

Speaking on the occasion, Oram emphasised on the need to cooperate with industry for planned development for the welfare of the people in the peripheral areas.

Among others, CMD, MCL AN Sahay, AK Tiwari, director (Technical), Operations, PC Panigrahi, director(Personnel) and AK Singh, general manager, (Basundhara Area) also spoke on the occasion.

MCL has already sanctioned Rs 26.91 crore for widening of Balinga-Taparia road and has entered into an MOU with the PWD for construction of a new 35 km, four-lane road to Sundargarh at a cost of Rs 385 crore.
