An MOU will be soon signed between the Centre and OREDA for the purpose, said official sources.

The entire project to be executed and supervised as per Central guidelines will be implemented by OREDA on a turn-key basis.

3,217 habitations have been identified for the implementation of the scheme during the 2013-14 fiscal. This is part of Centre’s pipe water supply programme for rural pockets in the 12th Five Year Plan.

In the first phase, the scheme will cover 1,762 habitations in the state.

The entire scheme for the 18 IAP districts will cost an estimated Rs 164.06 crore and the second phase that will cover 1,455 habitations would require Rs 74.2 crore.

While the Centre has earmarked Rs 35.94 crore for the first phase, Rs 53.91 crore will come from the National Rural Drinking Water Programme, taking the total investment for the first phase to Rs 89.86 crore.

While both Rayagada and Sundargarh have been allocated over 140 schemes under the first phase, Mayurbhanj has been allocated 376 schemes and Koraput and Keonjhar have been sanctioned 258 and 230 schemes respectively.

The innovative scheme was first launched by Maharashtra Government and is being replicated in rural areas where electricity supply is a problem.
