Sources said Rajeev Vengra (27), a constable of 4th OSAP Battalion in Rourkela, was on the way to Rourkela from Rajgangpur with his two friends in a Bajaj Pulsar bike (0R14 D 6537), when a speeding truck collided head-on with the bike at Mandiakudar petrol pump.

While Rajeev died on the spot, his two friends were critically injured.

Police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to Nuagaon Missionary Hospital.

The incident took place at 7.20 PM.

Tension ran high in the area as irate locals took the body of the deceased and staged a road blockade.

“The locals have been agitating since last one hour. We are trying to convince them and take the body for post-mortem. We will also find the vehicle and arrest the driver very soon,” KD Pradhan, Sub Inspector of Kansbahal Outpost, told OST.
