OTV MD Jagi Panda’s lawyer, PRO appear before child rights commission

Cuttack: Lawyer and PRO of Odisha Television Limited (OTV) MD Jagi Mangat Panda today appeared before the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a minor girl in the state between April and May this year.

Besides, the mother of the minor victim girl deposed before the commission today.

Earlier, the Commission had asked OTV MD, Bhubaneswar DCP, the complainant and Odisha Crime Branch’s investigating officer to appear before it by 11.30 AM today.

During the hearing, the minor’s mother brought some serious allegations against the OTV MD. Quoting client, the complainant’s lawyer alleged that Panda had met the girl twice before the police complaint was lodged and she had threatened to kill her and her mother if she discloses the matter before anyone.

“The minor girl disclosed about the threat around 10-15 days ago. OTV MD is intentionally not appearing before the commission,” said the lawyer quoting the complainant.

Meanwhile, OSCPCR Chairperson Sandhyabati Pradhan said statements of both the sides were recorded today. The next hearing of the case will be held on December 2. A notice has been served to the OTV MD asking her to personally appear before the commission during the next hearing.

It is pertinent to mention here that the minor girl was allegedly gangraped by employees of the private news channel and a few cops for around 15 days during April-May.
