Over 2,400 health worker posts lying vacant in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A total of 2,414 health worker posts have been lying vacant Odisha, informed Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das in the State Assembly today.

Replying to a query, the Health Minister said there are vaccines of 1,695 allopathic doctor, 187 homeopathic doctor, 170 ayurvedic doctor, 2,594 nurse and 587 pharmacist posts in the State.

Das further stated 177 laboratory technician and 221 radiographer posts have been lying vacant at different hospitals in the State.

The State government has directed OPSC, OSSC and OSSSC to begin the process for selection, promotion and ad-hoc and contractual appointments to fill up the vacant posts, informed the Minister.

The OSSC has already completed selection process for 481 ayurvedic assistant, 483 homeopathic assistant, nine unani assistant post and 80 nurse and paramedical vacant posts. The Minister said the selected candidates will get appointment soon.

He denied that the state government was not aware of any instances of exploitation from patients and their relatives by private nursing homes, diagnostic centres and clinics. The district task force and the state task force have been formed to keep an eye on treatment procedure and management of daily affairs at private hospitals.

BJD MLA of Phulbani, Angada Kanhar in the State Assembly wanted to know how many posts of doctors, nurses and paramedics in allopathic, homeopathic and ayurvedic departments are vacant. Also he asked a query on what steps the government has taken to stop exploitation of patients at private nursing homes and clinics.
