Over 50% MBA, MCA seats fall vacant in Odisha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Aug 3:

While over 30,000 B.Tech seats have fallen vacant in Odisha this year, the same situation is now in MBA and MCA as over 50 percent of seats in these two streams have fallen vacant in the state.

admissionSources in the Higher Education department said out of a total of 5365 MBA seats and 2895 MCA seats in 70 colleges, 2361 seats and 514 seats have been filled up respectively.

In 10 MBA and 12 MCA colleges in the state, less than five students have taken admission.

In the allotment of seats for these two streams made two days ago, most of these seats have been filled up in Utkal, Ravenshaw and Brahmapur Universities.

However, only five students have taken admission in Maharaja Purna Chandra Autonomous College while four students have taken admission in the North Odisha University’s Keonjhar campus.

Compared to the government colleges and universities, the plight of the private colleges is miserable as there are less than 10 MBA students in 15 colleges and 10-20 students in nine colleges.

The situation in the MCA stream is more precarious. Though most of the seats in leading government colleges have been filled up, only 14 students in FM University, 17 in GM Autonomous College, six in North Odisha University and only one student in Maharaja Purna Chandra Autonomous College have taken admission this year.

In 30 private MCA colleges, there are less than 10 students in 18 colleges, less than five students in 10 colleges and 10-20 students in seven colleges.

Taking note of such precarious situation, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities have decided to conduct Special JEE for admission in these two streams which will be held on August 9.

The online application would begin from August 4 to 6 while the students can download their admit card from the OJEE website www.ojee.nic.in on August 7 and 8.

The results will be announced on August 11. The verification of documents will be held on August 12 and 13 while final seat allotment would be made on August 14.

Prior to final allotment of seats, OJEE will inform the students about the place of nodal centres for counselling.
