Over Rs 4 cr worth liquor seized so far in Odisha ahead of polls

Bhubaneswar: The flying squad of Election Commission in Odisha is pulling all stops to ensure free and fair elections in phase four polls of Odisha.

According to data released by the Information and Public Relations Department of the state government today, 14,327 non-bailable warrants have been issued and 65,056 persons detained under various sections of IPC.

Furthermore, 5,519 licensed guns have been handed over to corresponding district administration, 250 unlicensed arms and ammunition and 1465.584 kg of explosives have been seized.

So far, excise and police officials in various districts have confiscated 1,58,345.113 bulk litre liquor worth Rs. 4,11,90,451 and cash amounting to Rs. 3,75,21,380, as of today.

59,45,918 posters, banners and hoardings that violated the Model Code of Conduct have been removed ahead of the fourth phase of elections in Odisha, as were 4,40,678 such posters and hoardings put up on private properties.

The state-level Control Room telephone (bearing the number 0674-2395015) received 1283 phone calls, while Voter Helpline (bearing the telephone number 1950) received 17,205 phone calls till today, regarding queries and complaints related to the ongoing polls.
