Panchayat polls in Odisha: 1,13,686.19 litres of liquor seized from Jan 19 to Feb 6

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the panchayat polls in Odisha which are scheduled to begin from February 16, 2022, the State Police has seized a total of 1,13,686.19 litres of liquor and 27 illegal arms.

Since the enforcement of Model Code Conduct from January 19, 2022 to February 6, 2022 ahead of the panchayat polls, the Odisha Police seized 1,13,686.19 litres of liquor in bulk quantity. The maximum amount of 70,536.965 litres of liquor were seized in Balasore district.

In DCP, Bhubaneswar area 2,470.87 litres of liquor and in DCP Cuttack, 1,950.715 litres of liquor were seized during the said period.

As many as 27 illegal arms were seized during the period. Maximum eight illegal arms were seized in Rourkela police district.

Also, 471.86 grams of drugs were seized under the NDPS Act in the State.

A total of 1,492 warrants were executed from January 19, 2022 to February 6, 2022 in the State. In Balasore district alone, 201 warrants were executed.

The three-tier panchayat elections in the State will held on February 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 in a phased manner.
