Panel reviews status of Odisha power projects

The steering committee of the Odisha government today reviewed the progress of the existing and upcoming power projects in the state.

The meeting, presided over by chief secretary JK Mohapatra reviewed the progress of NTPC projects like Darliplai Super Thermal Power project, Gajmara Super Thermal power Project and Talcher Super Thermal Power Station at Kaniha.

Issues relating to resettlement & rehabilitation (R&R), land acquisition, disbursement of compensation, mine void filling, renewal of water allocation, transfer of land for intake water pump house, etc were discussed in the meeting.

The progress of 4000 MW Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPP) in Odisha, a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Merry-Go-Round (MGR) Railway also figured in the meeting.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Energy secretary PK Jena said the work for OPGC Power Plant expansion units has been expedited.

“All the issues have been settled and the works will be further expedited in coming days. Available data shows that there has been 73 percent progress in land acquisition for the projects in districts of Sundargarh and Jharsuguda”, he added.
