“I would first like to say that whosoever has done it should be caught. We were all sitting here when the incident happened. Suddenly, there was a loud bang and some particles like pebbles hit us. Students ran hither and thither in panic after hearing the noise,” said a student.

“The incident occurred at around 6.30 pm. There was no power at that time. We heard a loud sound like that of a cracker. We saw someone running away on our left. The IIC and the registrar had come here after being informed about the incident,” said the security guard of the varsity.

While no one has been hurt in the incident, the external unit of one of the air conditioners installed at the Psychology department has been damaged.

Malgodown police has launched an investigation into the incident.

With university students’ union elections round the corner, analysts are of the view that the incident could have been aimed at creating disturbance to stall the elections.

Notably, two groups of students had clashed in the university campus on Sunday night over immersion of Ganesh idols.

A group of students had smashed the windshield of the vice-chancellor’s car the next day of the group clash.
