Panic after rampaging bison kills 2

Panic gripped villages under Udala forest range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district following the death of two villagers after they were attacked by a rampaging bison in the last two days.

According to reports, the bison, weighing about 600 kg from Similipal National Park, strayed into Dugdha village via Sunapokhari and attacked Nabin Nayak (45) of Dugdha Dipasahi village who had gone to a nearby pond in the morning hours on Tuesday

Nayak, who sustained grievous injuries, was rushed to Udala hospital from where he was shifted to district headquarters hospital at Baripada. But as his condition worsened, he was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.

Panic again gripped the area when the bison attacked Chatur Marandi (50) of Anantpur village on Wednesday afternoon while he was on the way to his agricultural field.

Following the incident, villagers rushed Marandi to Udala hospital where the doctors pronounced him as brought dead.

Besides, the marauding bison also seriously injured Paya Hembram (30) of Kutalin village and Karmakar Dhungia (18) of Dugdha village who are undergoing treatment at Udala hospital.

Till reports last came in, the Forest personnel have failed to trap the bison that is now reportedly inside the forest area near Anantpur.
