Paralakhemundi row: SIT questions Maharaja’s daughter

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Odisha Crime Branch, which is probing into the mysterious deaths of Parala Maharaja’s former manager Anang Manjari Patra and her three siblings, questioned king’s daughter Kalyani Devi today.

According to sources, the team quizzed Kalyani Devi at a lodge in Purunapatna area. The SIT reportedly sought information from Kalyani regarding Maharaja’s properties.

Kalyani, who has been staying in Chennai for a long time, arrived here last evening and was warmly received by the denizens of Paralakhemundi. Later, she performed puja at a local temple for quick recovery of his father.

She left for Chennai today assuring to cooperate the SIT in investigation process, sources said.

On the other hand, the suicide notes, which were seized from Anang Manjari’s house, were sent to Handwriting Bureau to match the handwriting with those of the deceased.

It may be recalled here that Parala Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deb’s former manager Anang Manjari Patra and her siblings– Bijaylaxmi Patra and Sanjay Patra– were found dead inside their house at Jangama Sahi here on August 21. While Sanjay Patra was found hanging in the drawing room, Anang Manjari Patra and her sister Bijaylaxmi Patra were found dead in another room. Santosh Patra alias Tulu — brother of deceased— was rescued from the house in a critical condition and admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

However, Santosh took his last breath at the hospital while undergoing treatment.

Worth mentioning, the former manager and her brother Sanjay were accused of financial misappropriation pertaining to the property transactions of Parala Maharaja.
