Parcel bomb case: Kin meet Odisha CM, seek immediate arrest of culprits

Bhubaneswar: Parent of the newly-wed couple in Patnagarh of Balangir district, who had received a parcel bomb as gift which later killed the man and his grandmother, today met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding immediate arrest of the culprit.

Father of the bride and mother of the deceased groom met Naveen at his residence urging his personal interference in the investigation.

Sources said the CM promised the grieving parents of all assistance for a speedy and fair probe.

“Chief Minister assured us to take up the matter with police DGP for proper and quick investigation into the matter,” said the deceased groom’s mother in a choked voice.

Reiterating their claim that there was no love angle behind the incident, she said someone might have plotted the crime out of ego or jealousness.

On the otherhand, police is yet to get any breakthrough in the sensational case which caused a massive public outrage in the western Odisha town.

On Monday, Director General of police R P Sharma had asked the Crime Branch to review the progress of the investigation.

So far, police could only manage to ascertain that the wedding parcel was despatched from Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

On February 23, groom Soumya Sekhar Sahoo and his grandmother Jemamani died following explosion of the gift while his wife Reema is still undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
