Passenger car sales up 7 percent in February: SIAM

New Delhi, March 1:

Domestic passenger car sales increased by 6.85 percent in February which stood at 171,727 units from 160,717 units off-take in the corresponding month of 2014, industry data showed Tuesday.

cars automobile industryAccording to data furnished by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total passenger vehicle sales, which include cars, utility vehicles and vans, went up by 6.16 percent at 231,165 units from 217,750 units sold in February 2014.

SIAM data showed that sales of utility vehicles grew by 4.68 percent at 45,545 units, while the off-take of vans grew by 2.73 percent at 13,893 units.

The industry data for last month reported a 10.13 percent growth in overall commercial vehicles segment sales, which is a key indicator of economic activity.

The commercial vehicles segment off-take stood at 52,843 units during last month from 47,982 units sold in the corresponding month of 2014.

However, three-wheeler sales declined by 10.32 percent in the month under review at 34,033 units from 37,950 units sold in the corresponding month of 2014.

Total two-wheeler sales last month also declined. It fell 0.99 percent at 1,208,084 units from 1,220,141 units sold in the corresponding month of 2014.

Scooter sales in February were up 18.78 percent at 370,527 units, however, motorcycle sales declined by 8.22 percent at 774,122 units.

Exports for the month under review went down by 6.71 percent at 251,993 units from 270,110 units shipped-out during February 2014.

Total vehicle sales in February marginally grew by 0.15 percent at 1,526,125 units from 1,523,823 units sold in the corresponding month of 2013.
