Paswan hopes to break own Guinness record in 2014

Patna, April 29

Aided by the “Modi wave”, LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan Tuesday said he hoped he would break his own Guinness World Record for winning a parliamentary election with the highest margin from his Hajipur constituency in Bihar in these elections.

The Lok Janshakti Party chief recalled that he won from Hajipur in 1977 with a margin of 4.24 lakh votes – a feat that established a Guinness World Record.

“The situation seems like 1977… I am confident I will repeat it,” he said.

“I am confident of breaking my own old record this time as people of all sections, castes and community will vote for Modi,” Paswan told media persons, a day ahead of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s election meeting in Hajipur in his favour.

He claimed that there is a clear Modi wave all around in Bihar and across the country.

Paswan’s record was however broken by P.V. Narasimha Rao, when he won from the Nandyal constituency in Andhra Pradesh in 1991 by five lakh votes after he became prime minister.

Paswan’s LJP joined BJP in February to contest polls and is contesting seven of Bihar’s 40 Lok Sabha seats.

In Hajipur, Paswan faces sitting member, Janata Dal-United’s Ram Sunder Das. The 93-year-old Das is also a former Bihar chief minister.
