“Many states including Odisha have asked for more rice than wheat. We have formed a committee that is being headed by Chairman of Food Corporation of India (FCI) to look into the issue. We are keeping a positive outlook,” said Paswan speaking to reporters after meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar today.

The Chief Minister also demanded allocation of more rice at a subsidised rate for the SC/ST hostels of the state during the meeting with Paswan.

Patnaik had earlier written a letter to Paswan and Prime Minister Modi on February 3 seeking more rice for the state.

“Odisha is a rice consuming state and most people prefer rice as their main staple diet. Our request to Government of India was based on ratio of 85.82:14.18 derived from the options of beneficiaries indicated in their NFSA applications. Failure to supply food grain as per the choice of the NFSA beneficiaries will be against the spirit of the Act,” Naveen had written in his letter.

It may be mentioned here that Paswan is on a two-day tour of the state to review implementation of the National Food Security Act here. He would attend a meeting of ‘Hindi Salahkar Samiti’ tomorrow and also meet workers of his Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
