Peaceful Easter Sunday in Kandhamal

Solemnity with a dash of gaiety marked the observance of Easter Sunday by the Christian community in the tribal dominated Kandhamal district in Odisha on Sunday.
EasterLike elsewhere in the state, the churches of various denominations in Phulbani, Balliguda, Daringbadi, Tumudibandh, Raikia and Kotagarh witnessed karge congregation of the faithful for prayers like elsewhere in the state.

Easter is a festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead three days after his crucifixion at Calvary. People celebrate Easter by making and distributing chocolates among children.The egg holds great significance during Easter as it signifies life.

Get-togethers and feasts were organised at different churches as Easter Sunday marks the end of the Holy Week of prayers and atonement- recalling the final phase of Christ’s life from his arrest and crucifixion, followed by resurrection and fasting prayers, seven statements from the Cross and Holy Mass.

Security was tightened across the district with patrolling in Christian dominated areas during the week long festival. However, the festivity passed off peacefully, with no reports of any unpleasant incident anywhere.
