These 100 projects are aimed at facilitating drinking water to 1,72,000 citizens across 100 villages, said a press notification from the Chief Minister’s office.

“Facilitating drinking water is a priority of the State Government. While there were only 459 drinking water projects in 2000, over 10,000 projects are functional now. In view of the water crisis in the state, the government is facilitating drinking water through tankers and has issued a 24 hour deadline to repair dysfunctional tube wells,” said Patnaik.

He further urged the citizens to avoid wasting water and encouraged the villagers take care of the piping infrastructure.

Speaking to reporters, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said that the projects are being implemented at a cost of Rs 72 crore and out of 954 planned projects, 347 have been completed so far.

He further added that the government intends to complete the remaining projects by the end of the 2016-17 financial year.

It may be noted here that the Chief Minister, on April 20, had dedicated 100 urban drinking water supply projects across the state in the first phase.
