Plus 2 goof up : Aggrieved parents likely to move Odisha High Court

Parents of affected Plus Two students  are planning to move the Odisha High Court against the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) to challenge the poor marks awarded to their wards and pray for re-evaluation of annual Plus Two answer papers, sources said.

Aggrieved over faulty evaluation work, thousands of students and their parenst have been demanding a complete revaluation of answer sheets instead of just re-addition.

“If the CHSE does not pay heed to our demand we will go to High Court”, said Ashok Sahoo, an angry father of a student who claims it is faulty evaluation that heas left him with very poor marks in Mathematics.

Prahalad Dixit, a parent from Bhadrak said, “Re-addition will not help , we want a re-evaluation of papers by the Council.My son has got good marks in other subjects but got single digit marks- just 2  in Physics and 7 in Mathematics which is simply impossible,” Dixit said, adding, “If my son fails to get any additional mark in re-addition process then I will file a petition against CHSE in High Court praying for re-evaluation”.

On the other hand CHSE chairman Dr Basudeb Chhatoi said “On the first day none of the 2500 students, who had applied for re-addition, had got single digit marks. But on the second day after a scrutiny of about 4000 applications, we have found out 9 applications in which students who have secured above 70 per cent marks in other subjects and got single digit marks in one or two papers.We checked and found no error in the re-addition in these papers.”

“We have no issues if some parents want to file cases in the Odisha High Court seeking a revaluation instead of re-addition in answer sheets. We don’t have any provision in Council’s statutes for revaluation of papers. We will definitely abide by the High Court order if it directs us for a revaluation,” Dr Chhatoi said.

An official of CHSE said re-evaluation is a time-consuming process and it may take 3 to 6 months.

Thousands of students along with their parents were seen waiting in the long queues in front of the CHSE headquarters here under the scorching sun  for their turn to apply for re-addition.
